SHOW ME your TRUE in·ten·tion/inˈten(t).

Updated: Aug 19, 2019

noun plural noun: intentions

1. A thing intended; an aim or plan. "she was full of good intentions"

synonyms: aim, purpose, intent, objective, object, goal, target, end.

Most people I work with are so full of energy and ideas and passion, yet where I see some of them fall short is that they lack intention. They lack a fundamental starting point for their Fashion Dreams, a goal a direction and furthermore lack the ability to stick to it. They have an idea of what they want to do in Fashion, but haven't DECIDED that they are going to do it and then put the action behind the intent. Intentions are not necessarily goals, but they are bigger than that and speak to who you want to be in this World. It's a kind of mindful approach to your dreams that allow you to begin to align to the Universe and the things that you want out of it.

"Intentions are not like a wishing well where you say your intention one time and then drop a coin in the well and hope it comes true. "

I can literally see people I know rolling their eyes right now thinking what the hell is she talking about!? I get it, setting intentions is harder than setting a goal. Setting intentions requires that you approach Life, Work, Relationships and Friendships from a much higher vibration level. It requires you to be mindful and do the things you love from a place of focused purpose. A life led with intention and gratitude and positivity. For example, for me I sometimes will make small intentions to elevate my vibration for that day. It could be as simple as saying "Today, I will be grateful for the journey I am on. I will not worry about the destination, but will revel in the wonderful things that I have been able to accomplish and show gratitude for how far I have come." The cool thing about setting intentions, is it doesn't cost a penny and is something you can do everyday that can literally change the circumstance you are in. If you don't believe me, try it sometime when you are having a tough day or are finding it difficult to overcome something.

What I have found is that by setting intentions, I am very clear about what I want out of Life and what I want out of my Fashion Business. When my intentions are clear, my goals, visions and dreams begin to align and come to fruition. A recent intention I set about a month ago just manifested itself this week and it made me smile from ear to ear. I have been reciting the following intentions for about a month:

I intend to inspire others and uplift them through my work.

I intend to lead by example.

          I intend to help others.

I intend to share my knowledge and teach others.

Fast forward a month later and after of course taking the action steps of getting my resume to several folks I knew and sharing my intentions with them, I was hired as a Faculty Associate to teach Fashion Classes at Arizona State University, my Alma mater. I was not hyper focused on the where I teach and how much money I will make and all of those details, what I was focused on was saying to the Universe, my intentions are to help others, lead by example and serve as a teaching vessel.  Now remember, I have both the credentials and the years of teaching experience that makes this even remotely possible, but that overlaid with my intentions and hello Professor De'Shay!  Just remember to keep your intentions pure, wholistic, positive and always uplifting and elevating you to a higher place. Intentions are not like a wishing well where you say your intention one time and then drop a coin in the well and hope it comes true. No intentions have to be made from a genuine and authentic place and then your job is to LIVE your intentions daily as a further affirmation of what you have put out into the Universe.
